A showcase for how things, in East County, used to be.
.
.
Three things that might cause you to not recognize someone you know:
1. You haven't seen them in a long time.
2. They've got plenty of make-up on.
3. They have no make-up on at all.
=============================================
For better or worse-
Getting caught without that make-up
can turn into a curse.
.
Three ways to get ready for a brand new baby in the community:
1. Grin.
2. Buy baby things.
3. Attend a baby shower.

Three Ways To Know That You Are Having A Good Day
Three ways to know that you are having a good day:
1. You slept well.
2. Breakfast was great.
3. The plumbing is in gear.
==========================================
Now that the space station toliet is finally on the mend-
It will free up thoughts, for the other things, in which the station must attend.
.
.
Three things that we have had to be leery about in
regards to what we put on our hamburgers:
1. Lettuce.
2. Tomatoes.
3. The meat itself.
==========================================
Can't we all agree?
That the thought of all of this
makes one anything. but hungry?
.
.
Three places that you might weigh:
1. On the home scale.
2. On a quarter scale at the grocery store.
3. At the airport.

Three Reasons To Slow Down On That Driving
Three reasons to slow down on that driving:
1. There is no 'real' hurry.
2. It's against the law to go over the speed limit and can
save you some gas.
3. Our future generation is out of school, and crossing the streets,
on foot and bike, throughout the country.

Kids here-
There, and everywhere.

Three modern day Dick and Jane scenarios:
1. See dick and jane go to school - to learn the golden rule.
2. See dick and jane join the business world - and then underhandedly
in their favor make the money figures swirl.
3. See dick and jane hire a proper expensive defense - to downgrade or
avoid an indictment to make their lives less tense.

See Dick and Jane go to school-
To learn how to help others, by
example, learn to get

Three Ways To Tell That You Have Too Much To Do
Three ways to tell that you have too much to do:
1. You have extra large to do lists.
2. The clothes basket is full, actually overflowing.
3. You forgot what your own name is.
========================================
Eventually, you'll get back on track-
And figure out a way, to catch your snap.
.
.
Three things that retire:
1. Sports jerseys.
2. Employees.
3. That big yellow school bus.
=========================================
Stored in grand style-
At least, for a little while.
.
.
Three things to call that ice treat:
1. Shaved ice.
2. Sno cone.
3. Sno ball.
=====================================
A cool blast-
That serves today's needs,
as it has in the past.

Sawmill Festival 2008 In East Montgomery County
I am standing at Hwy 59 and FM 1314-
And I know that back in the day, different things were seen.
.
There was no Porter Wal-Mart or Kroger store on site-
Or any traffic, in which to fight.
.
Instead where the Dollar stands, along with the other stores-
A sawmill was buzzing, that opened up so many doors.
.
Providing for the people, who first came to East Montgomery County-
Life, back in those days, were as simple as they could be.
.
Simple, but not easy, "as it supposedly", is today-
People back then, just lived life in another way.
.
Working the land, and trying to provide-
Going to a little school, and partaking in a hay ride.
.
Appreciating what one had-
And when they got it, they were glad.
.
Burying their dead, on the land where they lived and sweated-
As a great history lesson, to those who have gone before, we
are much indebted.
.
Those days are gone, and we've now become so sophisticated-
With our worldly things and thoughts, that tend to be continually debated.
.
But let's step back for a moment, when we looked around-
And miles and miles of forests, is what was found.
.
When Sunday, was the time, to put everything away-
For it was a day of rest, and we were serious, when we called it God's Day.
.
When the children could go in the forest to play-
Without the thought of being done wrong, or taken away.
.
When Mama or Grandma would take the time to bake-
Otherwise, there would have been no pie or cake.
.
When Daddy handmade the little girls a Little East Montgomery County Doll-
Or the boys, whatever he could, so that they could play ball.
.
The time seems so far away, but in a flash one can step back, and I
can't wait-
To attend the Texas Sawmill Festival for 2008.
.
The East Montgomery County Historical Society will be there-
With many historical facts, and pictures to share.
.
Jerry Gay, will be found-
Creating a realistic old fashioned town.
.
Our East Montgomery Towns Book will be for sale-
Filled with local history, and will satisfy, our local residents without fail.
.
Kay Lynn Dawes and Gerrie Dickens have indexed the Enloe Cemetery,
and are working on other ones too-
Preserving history, is a goal that is being implemented, through and
through.
.
Enloe cemetery has ancestors starting back from the 1860's, a sacred
ground-
With many of their offspring in the area, generation after generation,
still around.
.
Back in the days, when at FM 1314 and Highway 59, there was no
rush-
Just a buzzing all day at the sawmill, until the night, when there was
a breathtaking hush.
.
Families tucked in bed, preparing for another day-
Living life in East Montgomery County, the old fashioned way.

Three Ways To Tell That The School Stage Program Went Well
Three ways to tell that the school stage program went well:
1. The audience showed up on time, and the show ran

2. The children were cute and sang their songs well.
3. You took enough pictures and video, of your child, to

Three good things to come from that disgusting act done by those horrible grave robbers:

Three reasons that the City of Houston got involved in sponsoring, Lights Out Houston, last month:
1. To raise awareness of conservation for buildings and homeowners.
2. To hopefully, help along, this becoming a yearly event.
3. To offset the Houston Pavilions, let there be more light theme, which is opening in the fall.

Three Examples Of A Little Math On The Latest Postage Stamp Increase

Three Reasons That We Need To Locate And Document Some Of Our Older Lost Cemeteries
Three reasons that we need to locate and document some of our older, lost cemeteries:
1. To preserve history.
2. To have reverence for the dead.
3. To offset vandalism and the digging up of graves, by those who have nothing better to do.
=========================================
Many black soldiers killed during World War I and World
War II-
Lost and buried in a cemetery, that recently has been
gone through.

Three steps to making a political voting decision:
1. Have all the facts in front of you.
2. Weigh heavily on all sides of the facts
in front of you.
3. Balance any final decisions against the
amount of contributions that have been
received.
======================================
Decision making at its best-
Includes fact vs. donation, in
order to pass the test.

.
Three things that you never expect:
1. Bonuses.
2. Courtesy on the road.
3. Sinkholes.
===================================
And in Liberty County, it was quite a surprise-
And to the surrounding area, especially on the
size.

Splendora Founder's Day 2008
At the junction of U.S. Hwy 59 and Farm Road 2090-
Is a little town, called Splendora, that is not
as small as it used to be.
On the Southern Pacific railroad, six miles
north of New Caney, and twenty-two miles
from Conroe-
It has that little town atmosphere, that we'd
all like to get to know.
In the late 1800's Cox's Switch, is the name
that it used to go by, as it caused quite a
stir-
For Charles Cox, is the one who was
responsible for getting the Houston, East
and West Railway to extend a narrow gauge
spur.
In 1896 Charles Cox, asked the first Postmaster,
M.S. King, to rename the town-
And because of the thoughts of "splendor of it's
floral environment," the name of Splendora
happened to come around.
Back to 1895, the Green Leaf Church building was
used as a school-
Until 1913, when a two room school, that accomodated
50 students, was built brand new, so that they could
properly learn the golden rule.
1936 was the year that it was partially burned-
But the following year the tides appeared to have
turned.
For a new brick school building was constructed,
and as time went by-
In 1981, it was being used to school the Junior
High.
In the 1940's the school system became an
independent school district all on its own-
The incorporation of the town in 1966,
attested to the fact, that it had grown.
And today still growing as it gets closer and closer to Houston-
With plenty of little town living, that still needs
to be done.
One organization, the Splendora Founder's
Day Society, was formed in 1981-
To help acknowledge the deep rooted history,
and to organize and oversee all the celebration
and family fun.
.
This weekend, the town will be celebrating
Founder's Day, with much pride-
With a parade, a Fun Run, a BBQ cook off, and so many other activities, on the side.
A benefit for the community as a whole-
As the annual celebration continues to unfold.
May 9 and 10, the celebration will take place-
As the residents gather, to reflect, have fun,
and re-live, life, at a slow pace.
The East Montgomery County Historical Society will be there-
With plenty of pictures from the past, to exhibit and share.
A grand celebration of the town of Splendora as it should be-
A precious town, deep in the heart of East
Montgomery County.

Three Ways To Get To Work Quicker

2. Leave earlier.
3. Leave late and cut in front of every car that you see.

Three Ways To Document History To Be Readily Used In The Future
Three ways to document history to be readily used in the future:
1. Create a time capsule as the R.B. Tullis Library
in East Montgomery County has done.
2. File some papers at home.
3. Index a local cemetery.
=======================================
Enloe Cemetery, in Porter, has been indexed, and is
for sale, by the East Montgomery County Historical
